A59 Dodds Lane junction improvement decision

Overview

Sefton Council have been looking into improving the A59 Corridor to help make it easier to walk, wheel and cycle in the area. Further up the A59, Sefton Council completed works on Kenyons Lane junction to make it easier for people to navigate the area and make short local trips without a car, such as walking or cycling to school, walking the dog to the park, visiting local shops or work.

Continuing this work, the Council shared proposals to improve Dodds Lane junction. Dodds Lane currently has just one crossing. The junction is located near Northway Primary School. The change will help local pupils be able to walk, wheel or cycle to school in a much safer way.

These proposals were first shared in March 2026. We have listened to the public and explored options brought up during the engagement sessions, and have done wider traffic monitoring.

After exploring the different options for improvements for Dodds Lane, we are asking for further comments from the public.

We are suggesting two options:

  • Option A - making the service roads into the A59 one-way (making it unable to turn into the A59)
  • Option B - closing the service roads to through traffic to and from the A59.

Why your views matter

After the consultation in March and looking into the suggestions further, we want to continue to involve people in the final decision.

At the end of the survey you will be asked if you want to give an email address so that you can receive a copy of your response. You do not have to do this. The email address is only used to send the email to you from Your Sefton Your Say. The email address will not be stored with the responses and Sefton Council will not have access it, unless you have given your email address as part of the survey.

This activity will open on 9 Nov 2026. Please come back on or after this date to give us your views.
