Welcome to our consultation page for Sefton Council’s proposed regeneration of Southport Town Hall Gardens. Sefton Council is preparing a detailed planning application for the regeneration of the Town Hall Gardens on Lord Street, as we seek to build on the heightened significance the space has taken on in recent years.
The regeneration will create a place that delivers a positive legacy for Southport’s future and a new chapter for the Gardens.
What are the plans?
Following the tragic events of July 2024, the area outside The Atkinson became a place for thousands to come together in, solidarity and support
From that experience grew an ambition from the families of Alice Aguiar, Bebe King and Elsie Stancombe to create a lasting “thank you” to the town – somewhere where people can gather to celebrate the strength of their community and look ahead at what the community can jointly achieve for years to come.
Our ambition for Southport’s Town Hall Gardens is to deliver a place that looks confidently towards the future and creates a positive legacy. Somewhere that children and families feel safe and welcome, where nature and colour are brought into the heart of the town, and where Southport can come together throughout the year to play, meet, perform and celebrate.
The proposals
Southport Town Hall Gardens has a unique place in the story of the town. The proposals have been shaped by the existing character of the site and its surroundings, and informed by extensive engagement with local families, community groups and town centre businesses, to ensure we create something positive and lasting for Southport.

8 - Extebsive seating to encourage people to dwell, rest and enjoy the space
9 - Controlled vehicle access and movement to service the space whilst creating a safe space for pedestrians

This information is also being displayed during a 2 week exhibition for the proposals at The Atkinson, Lord St, Southport, PR8 1DH from Monday 21st September to Monday 5th October, where you can drop in Monday–Friday from 10am–5pm or Saturday from 10am-2pm to view the plans, a 3D model and have your say.
