Ainsdale On Sea Consultation

Closed 30 Sep 2021

Opened 21 Jun 2021

Overview

Within the Sefton Coastal Plan, Ainsdale on Sea has been recognised as one of the borough’s key coastal gateways and sits in an area of high conservation value within a Site of Special Scientific Interest.

The area is important to the council to provide a high-quality visitor experience, while reducing visitor pressure on the rich and protected flora and fauna of the Ainsdale and Birkdale Local Nature Reserve.

In addition, the council remains committed to managing recreational pressure on the Sefton Coast in a way which fulfils its legal duties under Habitats Regulations to protect the internationally important nature and wildlife of the coastline.

The council recognises that in recent times issues relating to access and facilities at Ainsdale on Sea mean the visitor experience may fall short of expectations.

Why your views matter

During 2021 Sefton Council are planning a range of improvements in the Ainsdale on Sea area including:

  • External artwork on Toad Hall
  • Installation of temporary toilets and looking at longer term improvements to the toilets that are currently on site
  • A new food and drink facility in the picnic area
  • Improved off-beach car parking, including pedestrian and bike access improvements and new EV charging points.

We would like to use this opportunity to tell people more about these improvements and also want to find out more about the issues that are important to people who use the area. Below is a map highlighting the areas for the proposed improvements.

Following the consultation, the plan is to start looking at the next stages for development in the area, based on areas of priority.  This phased development will realise the potential of Ainsdale on Sea and reflect the aspirations, opportunities and constraints associated with this important area.
