Overview

Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment (PNA) 2022-2025 Consultation

Sefton Health and Wellbeing Board are required by law to produce a Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment (PNA) every three years, and to make sure that it is available for stakeholders to comment on before it is finally published.

The PNA describes pharmacy provision in Sefton together with when and where these are available.  NHS England also uses the PNA when considering applications to open a new pharmacy, move an existing pharmacy or commission additional services from a pharmacy.

Why your views matter

The draft PNA must undergo a 60-day statutory consultation, the main aims are:

  • To encourage constructive feedback from a variety of stakeholders
  • To ensure a wide range of primary care health professionals provide opinions and views on what is contained within the PNA

The PNA describes the current provision of pharmacy services in Sefton and whether this meets the current and future needs of our population.

The PNA helps NHS England to manage and make decisions about requests from pharmacists or pharmacy businesses set up new community pharmacies, merge business, or move premises within Sefton.  It also helps identify any gaps in service or improvements that could be made.

At the end of last year, we asked people across Sefton for their views on pharmacy services. These findings have fed into this draft PNA.  However, there is still time for people to tell us what they think by filling in the PNA survey.

All feedback will be considered and the PNA steering group will decide on behalf of the HWB which sections of the PNA need amending.  A consultation report will be included within the final PNA document.  This will provide an overview of the feedback received and set out how comments have been acted upon.  An updated PNA including the consultation process and responses will be presented to the Health and Wellbeing Board for final publication by 1 October 2022.

As such, we would like to invite you to take part in this consultation, which will run from 13th July to 11th September
