Overview

Your chance to suggest electric vehicle chargepoint locations across Sefton

We are committed to expanding the publicly accessible charging network across all areas of Sefton. This is to ensure that everyone has access to convenient and reliable charging.

Sefton Council adopted the Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Strategy (EVCI) in April 2026. The EVCI Strategy sets out our approach to helping install a publicly available charging network for everyone. Our role is to help those who don't have access to private/off road parking to be able to move towards getting an electric vehicle. We will also take every opportunity to encourage private investment into public charge points, by suppliers and businesses.

Our EVCI Strategy also sets our aim to trial different types of charging points and look at how we may be able to help our residents with cross pavement cable channels. We want our local communities to have a range of charging options and be able to access a robust public charging network.

Sefton currently has lower levels of publicly accessible electric vehicle charging infrastructure than many other local authorities across the UK Electric vehicle charging infrastructure statistics - GOV.UK

Therefore, using our EVCI strategy, we aim to install charging points in a range of publicly accessible locations, including on-street, in council car parks, and at community and leisure facilities.

Our approach to electric vehicles will benefit residents and visitors, as well as encouraging sustainable travel.

Funding

We have received Government funding for Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI). The funding will support the delivery of new charging infrastructure, particularly in areas where provision is currently limited, while also encouraging additional investment from charge point operators and other private sector partners.

Cross pavement charging

We have some funding available for Cross Pavement Charging. Our position previously has been against cross-pavement chargers due to accessibility concerns. This is being reviewed and we are looking into potential trial sites with a strict eligibility criteria. This is to ensure that it is rolled out in a way that is safe and accessible.

How to get involved

We are inviting Sefton residents to suggest locations for new EV charge points using the form below. This form is for finding places for public charging points that will be open to everyone, and we need your help in making sure we are planning to put these where our communities want them.

Every suggestion will be considered and assessed, as part of a detailed site review process. Suitable sites may be delivered via existing lighting columns to provide charging facilities. In locations where this is not feasible, alternative solutions such as dedicated charging bollards may also be considered.

Please note: This form is for EV charging point suggestions. Please be assured that Sefton Council will review each site and all requests will be logged. 

While we are unable to respond individually to each submission, we will provide updates on progress through our website and social media channels as charging infrastructure schemes move forward and new charge points are installed. 

Please note that at the end of this survey, before submitting your results, you will be asked if you want to provide an email address so that you can receive a PDF copy of your response.  This is completely optional.  The email address is only used to send the email to you via the online consultation system provided by Delib as the data processor.  The email address will not be stored with the responses and Sefton Council will not have access to it.
