Inclusive and Accessible Streets Forum

Closes 31 Mar 2027

Opened 19 Sep 2025

Overview

The Inclusive and Accessible Forum was set up in 2024, with an aim to consider issues around inclusion and accessibility in the built environment.

We would like to work with the group to create more inclusive streets in Sefton.

Together we would like to show and talk about our plans and ideas for transport and highway improvements in Sefton.

Our plans, proposals and information for sharing with the group may include:

  • The development of projects to make streets safer and more accessible in Sefton.
  • Sharing our policy and strategy documents to guide transport/highway improvements in Sefton.
  • Explaining what and where we are going to do things. This could be a new junction, crossing or route for people walking, wheeling, or cycling. It could be plans to look at how people drive and where they park or it could be details for a new major highway scheme.
  • The rules our road and street designers follow when making plans for changes.

People who are partially sighted or blind leading walks

We may need to call in experts to talk to the Forum on a particular subject or issue.  This could include wider departments, as well as the Highways and Public Protection department.

Who will be involved?

This Forum will be a partnership of people who care about Sefton Streets and how people use them.

The members will be individuals, self-advocates, people who work for organisations, and family carers.

The role of this Forum is to work together to positively influence the lives of people who use the streets of Sefton.

As a forum, the group will:

  • Be aware of issues affecting those who use the streets.
  • Consider if services are working well.
  • Support more people and organisations to understand the needs of people with different experiences of using our streets.

We will do this by working together to influence service improvements.

Structure and who is involved in the Forum.

The Forum aims to have members from a cross-range of different organisations.  Including:

  • SAFE (Southport Access for Everyone).
  • Merseyside Sight Loss Council.
  • People First Merseyside.
  • Sefton Council.
  • Sefton Carers Centre.
  • Sefton CVS
  • Individuals not linked to groups.

Why your views matter

Why do your views matter?

The input of the Forum will feed into decision making for the development and progression of highways schemes and policies, as appropriate.

How to get involved?

The meetings of the Forum take place approximately every three months. To date, meetings have been held at Bootle Town Hall and at Ainsdale Methodist Church (Lunch and Leisure). However, we are currently determining additional venues and will alternate locations across Sefton.

The meetings are held in person but there is also the option to attend on ZOOM, and you can also send comments and feedback by email transport.planning@sefton.gov.uk.

The next meeting will take place in October and details will be posted on this page once the date is confirmed.

At the end of the survey you will be asked if you want to give an email address so that you can receive a copy of your response. You do not have to do this. The email address is only used to send the email to you from Your Sefton Your Say. The email address will not be stored with the responses and Sefton Council will not have access it, unless you have given your email address as part of the survey.
