Overview

Sefton Council continues to work closely with schools to ensure that its youngest residents are aware of both the causes and risks of air pollution and the steps they can take to avoid it.

A ‘Clean Air Crew’ website has been designed by teachers at Southport Eco Centre (Sefton’s award-winning environmental education facility) to engage children on the issue of Air Quality in a safe, fun environment. The website aims to raise awareness of air quality issues in the hope of mitigating against future problems by encouraging behaviour change. Sefton’s Eco Centre encourages parents and teachers to explore the site together with their children – both learning and having fun together to help an early understanding of the fact that we all have a part to play in creating cleaner air and healthier communities.

The ‘Clean Air Crew’ website continues to be developed with additional teaching resources and interactive learning opportunities for all schools to use. The ‘Clean Air Crew’ website is available here: https://www.cleanaircrew.co.uk/

In February 2021, it was announced that Sefton Council’s ‘Clean Air Crew’ is one of 58 successful projects that will be funded through the £500k Community Environment Fund, launched last year. The 58 successful projects are set to contribute to the city region’s target of being net carbon zero by 2040.  Further information on this is available here:  https://mysefton.co.uk/2021/02/01/sefton-councils-clean-air-crew-project-to-benefit-from-liverpool-city-region-community-environment-fund/
