Parent Carer Wrap Around Childcare Survey 2024

We asked
We surveyed parents and carers between 5th February and 14th March 2024 to ask about their experiences of accessing good quality, affordable childcare for their school aged children.
You said
12% of parents and carers disagreed or strongly disagreed with the statement: ‘I am happy with the quality of childcare’.
36% of people who responded saidthat Wrap Around Childcare was
‘fairly difficult’ or ‘very difficult’ to afford.
30% of parents or carers told us that it was ‘fairly difficult’ or ‘very difficult’
to find childcare for their school aged children.
33% of parents of children with Special Educational Needs said it was ‘fairly difficult’ or ‘very difficult’ to find childcare for their school aged children.
We did
We have recruited a Wrap Around Coordinator and Quality Improvement
Officer to work with providers, offering a programme of training and Quality
Improvement visits.
Our Wrap Around Coordinator has supported parents and carers to understand
the tax free and help with childcare schemes.
We have developed a communications plan to promote to families.
We have developed a process to work with schools and Wrap Around providers to
increase the availability of places across Sefton in line with the Department for
Education Wrap Around Expansion Agenda.
We have worked with partners in the inclusion and SEND team to develop
training to promote inclusion.
Overview
This survey is to find out from parents and carers what their experiences and needs are in relation to Wrap Around Childcare for school ages children (5-11). The information will be used to inform our Childcare Sufficiency Assessment. It will also help us plan to make sure there are enough high quality childcare places at the times and in the places that families need it in Sefton in line with the Government agenda to increase the avaibility of Wrap Around Childcare Places by September 2026.
Why your views matter
Your views are important to us as they will help us decide how to assess if there is enough childcare provision in Sefton and plan new childcare services and ensure places meet the needs for local families. We are also keen to hear about the experiences of families with special educational needs and disabilities.
All responses will be only be used to help us assess the need for future childcare in Sefton and you will not be identified in any way in the reporting of this survey.
We estimate that this survey will take approximately 15 minutes to complete. We have asked participants for their postcode and the name of the school their children attend. This is so that we can assess demand and future demand at locality level. The survey will close on 14th March 2024.

Please note that at the end of this survey, before submitting your results, you will be asked if you want to provide an email address so that you can receive a PDF copy of your response. This is completely optional. The email address is only used to send the email to you via the online consultation system provided by Delib as the data processor. The email address will not be stored with the responses and Sefton Council will not have access to it. You may be asked for your email address as part of the survey and if so, there will be a Privacy Notice explaining why we are asking for this and you can choose whether to provide your email address or not on this basis.
What happens next
The results from this survey will be used to inform Sefton's Childcare Sufficiency document to identify whether there are sufficient childcare places to meet local need. It will also help us plan to make sure there are enough high quality childcare places at the times and in the places that families need it in Sefton in line with the Government agenda to increase the avaibility of Wrap Around Childcare Places by September 2026.
