Families First Partnership Coproduction Group
Overview
Let’s Make Things Better for Families in Sefton!
Sefton Council and local partners are working on a new plan to help children, young people, and families get support earlier—before problems grow. It’s called the Families First Partnership, and it’s part of a big change happening across the country.
More Information about Families First Partnership
Family First Partnership aims to build a more preventative, joined-up, and family-led system of support across England. It responds to recommendations from the Independent Review of Children’s Social Care and is embedded within the Stable Homes, Built on Love strategy.
The approach focuses on:
- Early help and prevention: Supporting families before issues escalate.
- Multi-agency working: Bringing together professionals from health, education, social care, and other sectors.
- Lead practitioner model: Providing families with a single, consistent point of contact.
- Family-led planning: Empowering families to make decisions and build support networks.
The model was co-developed and tested by a group of pathfinder councils, whose learning has helped shape the national rollout.

We want YOU to help us shape it!
We are setting up Coproduction Groups—friendly meetings where local people help decide how the Family First Partnership will work in Sefton.
You don’t need to be an expert. If you’re a parent, carer, young person, or just someone who cares about families, we’d love to hear from you!
What we have done so far
To kick things off, we spent the summer of 2025 talking to children, young people, and families across Sefton. We asked questions through online surveys and at fun community events. Lots of people joined in, and we even shared the surveys on social media and in the local newspaper!”
We also spoke to people who work with children and families—like social workers, teachers, and health staff. We held special events and roadshows to hear their ideas too.
But this is just the start – and you can be part of it!
We’re building a brand-new group called the Coproduction Group. This group will help us plan how the Families First Partnership works in Sefton.
Why your views matter
Coproducing is the Future of Family Support in Sefton.
As part of the national rollout of the Families First Partnership, Sefton Council are launching a series of coproduction sessions to shape how the programme will be delivered locally.
These sessions are an opportunity for:
- People who live in Sefton – Children, young people, parents, carers, and families who want to help shape future services. We especially welcome those with lived experience of Sefton’s children’s services, including care-experienced families and those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). However, the sessions are open to anyone who feels they can contribute meaningfully to the topic.
- Professionals and practitioners from Sefton’s internal workforce and wider partner organisations who can commit their time consistently and bring insightful, impactful ideas that reflect the voices and needs of families.
Together we’ll co-design a model that reflects Sefton’s unique strengths and needs.
Together we’ll explore what Family Help should look like in Sefton.
Together we’ll work on shaping services that work better together.
Together we’ll shape what support families need to thrive.
